Between the 12th and 14th of October, Eticas presented the findings of the privacy impact assessment conducted for the PROACTIVE solution and its subsequent privacy-by-design integration process at the ITDRR Conference 2022. Under the title “Privacy by design in CBRN technologies targeted to vulnerable groups: the case of PROACTIVE“, the paper examines the ongoing integration of Privacy by design (PbD) into the PROACTIVE technological toolkit aimed at supporting practitioners in managing large and diverse groups of people before and during chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNe) events. Based on extensive fieldwork activities with practitioners and vulnerable groups, the study results reveal the system’s main privacy-related risks, including the need to filter data by competent authorities (data controllers) and delineate potential solutions for each of them. In addition, the examination provides insights and standard procedures for Privacy by design within systems used in similar contexts. The presentation was held at the ITDRR Conference 2022, sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and which provides an international forum for researchers and practitioners to present their latest R&D findings and innovations. The conference is especially focused on the various IT aspects, emerging technologies and challenges of coping with disaster risk reduction.
